New Provost

Provost Haggett is taking her act on the road to Texas. Las Vegas has Gold as even money to take over. They'll name him interim; give him a big raise; then, next year at this time name him the permanent big shot. He who has the gold makes the rules.

Beats me. We're missing a few hundred grand, and there are some really confusing Powerpoint slides scattered about, but other than that, I don't know what impact she had.

For archival purposes, Rosemary Haggett's goodbye letter sent on UT News email appears below as a cut and paste document:

****************************************************

Dear Friends,

When I joined The University of Toledo shortly after the merger, the “new UT” was at the very beginning of a remarkable adventure.

In three short years, this University has created a new identity for itself. It has increasingly become a college of choice for thousands of students across Ohio and Michigan, research funding has surged, learning and discovery have been enhanced, and your collective efforts have established UT as a leader lifting up this city and this region.

For the last three years, it has been my pleasure to help implement an impressive strategic plan and work to improve the human condition.

While we’ve accomplished much together, I’m writing today to let you know that I will soon begin a new adventure. On June 1, I will become the first vice chancellor for academic affairs and student success for the University of North Texas (UNT) System. My excitement about assuming this new role is tempered only by the knowledge of what I will leave behind.

As chief academic officer for the UNT system, part of my new duties will include helping to create and implement a system-wide strategic plan that pulls together the academic resources of the UNT system to complement engagement and economic development opportunities for the region. The University of Toledo is ahead of many in its strategic focus, and I hope you’ll stay on your current path.

My husband, Gordon, and I are so grateful to the many friends we’ve made during our time in Toledo. Please stay in touch.

I want to wish everyone at this University the best of luck as your work, your research, creative activity, and learning lead the transformation of this region. And please know you’ll always have a Rocket fan in Texas, one who knows the real “UT” resides in northwest Ohio.

Rosemary Haggett, Ph.D.

Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs

I bet they all own Microsoft stock and are in league with Bill Gates to take over the world!

A Google glance reveals Lee Jackson, UNT Chancellor, as quite the political bully. He created a job for Haggett, apparently. He also appears to have abruptly driven away a popular President who had an excellent humanities background and real experience in higher ed.
