I'm puzzled: how is it that UT can start interviewing for a basketball coach withing two weeks of a "resignation," yet we still have someone who is essentially an interim dean in Arts and Sciences and there has been NO announcement, not even a suggestion that the search for a permanent dean has progressed at all? In fact, the whole matter is insulting.

It depends on what you consider important!

This "interim" dean said we need to change the organizational culture. Apparently this translates into helping to kill the college. What arrogance and deceit she exhibits in her dealings. She clearly regards faculty and chairs as her inferiors.

We are long past the university of peers where deans were from dons and where deans expected to return. I remember the first university president that I ever met... I was only about 10 years old at the time. But what I remember was that he was a faculty member first and a president second.

Now, administrators are administrators forever.

I know I regard you all as my inferiors.

As a 10 year old you remember a president who exuded faculty-esqueness? In the five minutes you were interacting with him? RIght.

my interaction to the University President that I knew when i was ten years old:

5 minutes of interacting?

It was in the late 1950's, and the President was a family friend of ours. Before that, he was a Profesor in a Metallurgy Department. I don't know how he was selected... but I do know he term limited himself and went back and taught Metallurgy.

My father always wanted me to call him President K... but he would always say PROFESSOR, please!

Different times!

I remember a couple years ago, when Joplin was fired and Cross hired within a short period--and the Dean issue was raging--the same question being asked. So now we're on our second basketball coach, and we still don't have a real dean ...
