This is not fact yet: but it will be if the faculty, the students and the alumi of A&S do not create a firestorm of opposition immediately. Apathy and passivity in the face of these challenges will insure that your future is controlled rather than you controlling your future. Now is the time for action!

Agreed. UT's arts, humanities and social science programs are very good, but certainly not strong enough to operate on their own as individual colleges. Stand up and make it clear that these programs need to be together for mutual support or they will all surely crumble.

It's not just Arts and Sciences. Every college/department is going to be restructured.

While I agree the College would be much better together, I'd also disagree with your point that UT's music, theater and film and art departments couldn't stand on their own. Indeed the CVA alone could stand as its own college without trouble, partnering with the museum.

I agree with Anonymous 11:28: those departments are indeed very good departments. What worries me is that if President Jacobs is so little informed about these departments such that he doesn't know we don't have a theatre department but rather a theatre AND FILM department, there are likely to be a lot of other things he's not informed about. This is not a studied, carefully considered plan, but a slap-dash-let's-make-it-look-like-we've-done-something plan.

Anon 6:54--you are so right! We can't let this certificate get 'filed'! This is not a time for us to roll over and play dead. This is a time for action! And we need students to be aware of and get involved with the struggle.
Anon 8:34--i feel sure that 'divide and conquer' has long been part of the Jacobs regime's strategy. Let's not let them get away with it!
Anon 11:18--That it affects everyone doesn't make things right--only more wrong. But it does mean we can--and should--work together.
Anon 11:28--With all due respect--to you, the CVA, and the prospect of greater UT/community cooperation--the CVA is not standing alone if it's partnering with the museum.
