Blog for Democracy and Against Tyranny

Our professional colleague, Lauri Essig, Assistant Professor of Sociology at Middlebury, reminds of the importance of blogging for democracy.

Professor Essig is only half right. Bloggers can speak out against oppression. Sadly, there is not, and never has been, "democracy" in the United States. And given the way thing are going (The Patriot Act, the claimed right of the president to declare American citizens as "enemy combatants" and therefore without recourse to the constitution, warrantless searches, civil forfeiture, torture, "preventive detention," and the activist Supreme Court ruling in Citizens United), things aren't looking good for the future either.
