Before being cruelly and savagely beaten and left to die by people who only want more, more, more, and don't care about the damage they leave behind.

Did you read the letter sent out by President Jacobs?

While I completely agree with the fact that we can not compete on the same ground with institutions like Harvard or University of Michigan, and that the modern university, the "relevant" university to use the President's words needs to be open to the world and the nearby community, I have found VERY fishy and suspect his statement about the university opening to the CORPORATE world.

It is clear to anyone who has a minimum amount of rational and critical thinking that the goal of corporations is antithetic to "the improvement of the human conditions".

Thus his last statement about "opening up to the corporate world" is the revealing point, where the entire façade of this well constructed lie falls apart to reveal the true goal of the reorganization: create new positions for his thugs and pay out his business buddies.

My initial reaction to the letter was that, for the first time, Jacobs has attempted to justify the specific changes he's pushing. "Where was this letter two months ago?" I thought. There was a lot of irrelevant bloviating in it, but there was at least an effort to explain the division of A&S with more useful words than "synergy."

says Lloyd A. Jacobs, Toledo's president. "So we're convinced that we have to chart our own course, and we believe that means being better and deeper—selecting certain peaks of excellence to strive for."

Deeper peaks? Good lord. That is why we need a strong liberal arts program.

The article is aptly titled "how to Build the Perception of Greatness--not "how to Build Greatness." What things look like, what they want people to think they are, not what they really are. Not substance, just more superficiality and illusion--what this administration is so good at.

Read the attached article and you can see why it was once considered very important to NOT have universities so financially dependent and cozy with higher education.

It is starting to get fun watching the rats move around on the deck of this ship. People are starting to act for personal gain, jockying for power, rather than as a group for the better interests of the group.

What do you mean "starting?"

A baby seal walks into a bar.

The bartender asks, "What do you want?"

The seal says, "Anything but a Canadian Club."
