It's the "business model" needs to be applied to universities thinking, which the BOT for Akron has bought hook, line, and sinker. You would think they would have looked at UT and seen that parasitic pseudo business types are attracted to dysfunctional universities, where they hire their cronies, make a ton of money, and then move on to the next "mark." What's really interesting is that the BOTs are usually themselves successful business people, although I guess you can say most of them inherited their money and didn't earn it. That's the only way I can explain the fact that they support the hirings of shady, unqualified people, support the whackiest get rich schemes, etc.

Trustees are successful business people? I have a few words for that: Rick Stansley and Jim Tuschman. Some might say they were successful because they got other people to pay for their mistakes, but that is not my definition of success.

This is exactly what is going on, almost a cultural phenomenon. Couldn't be summed up better.

Here's a link to an interesting article comparing higher ed administration to organized crime. Those of us at UT and UA will understand the truth of this: what's been done to students, faculty, and staff at the hands of too-highly paid administrators and incompetent trustees is a crime.
