Musical Chairs? Re(dis)organization at UT (it's been, what, seven years?)

When will the music stop?

In the interest of accuracy, Bloggie notes that here at UT the game has really been Reverse Musical Chairs: every time the music stops, UT administration adds another chair and another new administrator.

Music may stop if the faculty take a stand - through Senate Resolution; Vote of No Confidence; talking to reporters. But then...revolutions were rarely started by Professors...

This cartoon is only too true. The recent Independent Collegian reports that we have a new VP of Enrollment, hired to help manage VP Cruickshank's workload.
Meanwhile, faculty workloads increase.
Are you all as tired of the increasing musical chairs as I am?

Faculty have reached out to the media and reporters, but you can not make local papers and TV stations prepare a story, they have to choose to do so. As to a vote of confidence - look at recent history of those across the country very few are successful unless members of the BOT are already concerned about the performance of a President. And there is no indication that the UT BOT has issues (at least publicly). Power relationships in higher education across the country at public universities have changed - there is no public or political support for faculty, so the power all sits with state, BOT and President.

it looks like your contributing readership is declining. perhaps you won the battle (short term aggression) and lost the battle (true reform)? sorry, I can list several reasons - but so can you. thanks for hosting the party, even if it was for waste.

Looking at the recently published Nov 5 faculty senate minutes: Cruickshank says, "I specifically chose this image of a chess board and chess pieces and there’s one chess piece that is out in front, and that is where we want to be."

There aren't visuals accompanying the minutes, but I have to assume he was referring to the first pawn to be advanced, which almost always meets an early demise.

Good imagery, bro.

It sounds to Bloggie that Cruickshank has no idea whatsoever how to play chess.

The place has become a disaster. It is obvious to everyone that these clowns know nothing except how to spend money like drunken sailors, have meetings, make flow charts, and endlessly bully the people who do the real work of serving students.

And enrollment drops again! 3.8% according to today's Blade, according to Cruickshank, "exactly where I thought we'd be."

Guess that is why they had to hire a "helper" VP for him.
