Reorganization
Just a couple of quick observations on the subject of reorganization. First, as I have stated here previously, it is my belief that if you have the right people almost any organization will suffice and if you have the wrong people no organization will bail you out. Second, having said that, if any of you believe you have a way the university will operate in a more efficient and educationally viable manner, please chime in. My only caveat is that we not have a College of Sustainability.

A college of humanities and social sciences that merges COCA and LLSS, along with select programs like criminal justice and social work seems to make some sense. Criminal justice has much in common with sociology and the public administration. Social work would seem very related to psychology and to the various social justice related programs in LLSS like disability studies, gender studies and so forth.
Other education related programs in the human services college seem appropriate for the education college.
Putting a branch campus at Scott Park should be considered as a way to boost UT graduation/retention rates. This would be a great place to house two year programs as well.
Nice try. Humanities and Social Sciences combine to make a two legged stool. What would be the sufficient and necessary action at this time is to reassemble Arts and Sciences College as it was, restoring its logical integrity, collaborative efficiencies and demonstrated cost effectiveness under the leadership of a single dean. Then we can move ahead rapidly under full steam, leaving behind the nightmare that created by Jacobs Incorporated, now defunct. RIH.
Off topic, but Jacobs looked awfully thin at the inauguration. Does anyone know if he has been ill, or is it just a diet?
I think it is great we have a genuinely qualified president but I really expect little to change until we get a legislature in the state house that supports higher education. Perhaps professors should be making their case to the public state wide more?
The new humanities and social sciences college should grab two complementary programs that compete for majors: criminal justice and social work.
I hear that there are not a few NSM professors nostalgic about their good old days in A&S College, and anxious to reboot. Godpeed!
Those who pine for the resurrection of the College of Arts and Sciences are nostalgic for the faculty dominance that sheer numbers facilitated.

Can anyone guess which former University of Toledo administrator gets a car stipend from Akron but files for mileage reimbursement to go 3 miles to Portage Country Club for a meeting?

Also, if you dig into the report, you will see that the University of Akron paid for Scarborough's wife to attend a basketball game in Charleston SC. Why is it allowable for the university to pay for a non-employee's airline tickets? What about cutting the budget?
Who cares about SS at this point here at UT? He is no longer our problem let folks at UA deal with him. When can posters on this blog move beyond their obsession with SS and start focusing on UT issues?
