Dear Friends and Neighbors:
It has been a while since I participated actively in the blog but I believe it is time for a return engagement. There is obviously a lot of residual anger being carried forward from the last regime. The makeup of the Presidential Search Committee and the BOT contract offer have not exactly been helpful either. However, having said that I believe it is time for a new discussion. I want transparancy. I want to see the budget and not have to go through eighty different passwords to get to something. I would like an accounting of the 36 million dollar simulator and why anyone actually thought that would make money. I want to know why the university keeps paying former presidents. This is important because the BOT seems to not want to give us anything for the last two years while giving others what seems like a small fortune. It is even more important in terms of public credibility. Most of the folks I talk to believe we have money to burn here at UT. What's worse is they also believe that I as a faculty member have some control over the way money is spent; and, that I am getting reimbursed in a manner similar to administrators. I am sure you all have questions you would like answered as well. Let's ask a few here and see if anyone is listening.

Oh little wise one you ask questions that no one is interested in answering
It is simply astonishing that UT still has people in leadership positions whose inept, slow-footed judgment results in a student found responsible for a rape being “punished” with counseling, academic probation and a $25 fine. The victim then appeals the punishment, is told the perpetrator would be suspended for a year, only to later learn that the appeal was appealed by the perpetrator, and the original sanction is reinstated.
If Dr. Naganathan is going to be something more than simply a mere one-year caretaker, if UT is ever going to repair its scandal-marred image, he needs to show some courage and fire some people and not be overly worried about angering university vice presidents, faculty members, staff and students and others along the way.
This sexual-assault incident exposes serious weaknesses in the institution’s response to reports of rape that needs to be corrected immediately. This is not the year to take a time out.
a complaint to the u.s. department of education and/or saccs can be made now!
Careful 7:10. You literally don't know what you're talking about on this one. A whole lot of people will be back-tracking on this accusation very soon.
After reading the article in Friday's Blade about the sexual-assault policy controversy, I don't think that Kevin West and councilman Larry Sykes are going to be exchanging Christmas cards.
So all of the other UT unions now have new contracts, all with some back pay, annual increases and no increases in health insurance costs, except AAUP??? WTF
Dave Tucker? I thought that guy was dead?
That's why it's nice to be back.
