This explains so much.

This illustration doesn't have nearly as many executive offices as could fit in Lloyd Jacobs' image of the number of administrators it takes to run a university (into the ground).

What the heck happened to Tom Barden?

We saw in a recent online IC piece that Barden has announced his upcoming retirement because he wants to “spend more time with his family” – which I think we all know is very often a euphemism for “he was unceremoniously shown the door and/or thrown under the bus.”

Our suspicions along these lines are further aroused by the apparent lack of any formal mention of Barden’s departure in the UT News – again as far as we can tell online from out of town.

So what’s the skinny on this?

Just a normal retirement – or more ruthless campus Realpolitik?

article on the retirement of Tom Barden appeared in the UT News today, and from my discussions with him a few months ago he told me then that he was planning to retire and I did not get a sense or indication recently that he was forced to.

You can tell that the administrators are intellectually overloaded and defeated when they only want two or three bullet points for every goal.

So, let's lower the IQ requirements for these adminwhores who will collect their bonuses before you get your merit raise...

May the Grinch visit their families as well!
