Welcome to the "Grey Area" where "Unethical Utterances," i.e., criticisms of administrators, are commonplace. Jacobs' arrogance is astonishing
It's the same old, same old at UT
. . . . Either Jacobs is misleading the media or he has misled the Board of Trustees. President Jacobs objected to "the general tone" of the UT-AAUP Newsletter. Many persons on this campus object to the "general tone" of the Jacobs Administration. During his tenure as President, he has introduced an administrative culture of fear and intimidation. . . . A point of logic must be raised here, with all respect to UT AAUP, the conclusions that President Jacobs has (1) misled the media and (2) the Board of Trustees are not mutually exclusive. Both would seem likely given his considerable talent at spinning "visions." |

What would it take to leave some administrators behind?
A summary of the latest UTAAUP Newsletter (#68).
Jacobs stated a few years ago that tenuring a 40 year old faculty member is a 2.5 million dollar investment by UT - 2.5 million for the entire career of the faculty member.
The newsletter then computed the salaries of 6 top level administrators: "...over the next 5 years these 6 individuals will cost UT $11,851,484.76."
Jacobs will make at least $2,410,611.80 over the next 5 years.
Gold will make at least $3,842,835 for his 5 years.
Scarborough will make at least $2,150,973.46.
Johnson is making $200,000 a year plus a $10,000 a year car allowance.
"Dabney draws an annual salary of $215,540 and is currently working under a 3-year contract, thru 2014. Each year UT will contribute up to $43,108 to Mr. Dabney's 403(b) plan. That comes to $646,620 plus up to $129,324 or $775,944 for the life of this current 3-year contract."
Gaboury's salary is $200,695.40. "He negotiated a 10% administrative stipend for being Executive Director, bringing his yearly prize to $220,764.90. He also bargained for his "currently scheduled administrative leave at full pay" for June 13, 2011 to July 31, 2011. Should he step down as Executive Director he is guaranteed a semester's administrative leave at "full Executive Director's salary". Furthermore, since he is a tenured faculty member, this administrative leave "shall not prejudice any rights to a sabbatical leave."
And what have these overpaid carpetbaggers accomplished in six years apart from The dismantling of the College of Arts and Sciences? This Jacobs team has demonstrated all the talents of a shipbreaking crew from Bangladesh.
