Jacobs' arrogance is astonishing
It's the same old, same old at UT
. . . . Either Jacobs is misleading the media or he has misled the Board of Trustees. President Jacobs objected to "the general tone" of the UT-AAUP Newsletter. Many persons on this campus object to the "general tone" of the Jacobs Administration. During his tenure as President, he has introduced an administrative culture of fear and intimidation. . . . A point of logic must be raised here, with all respect to UT AAUP, the conclusions that President Jacobs has (1) misled the media and (2) the Board of Trustees are not mutually exclusive. Both would seem likely given his considerable talent at spinning "visions." |

nice rendering!
The sketch was likely made with university resources (paper, office, No. 2 pencil, scanner, CPUS) on "company time"...further reinforcing the public's skewed image of the professoriate and Team Jacob's impression of CAS. Unfortunately, I suspect the doodle will serve only undermine the anti-Jacobs movement and be dismissed. If only the reference to photocopy paper weren't used...
Hey Bean Counter! When you are through counting His Majesty's paper clips, rubber bands and free breakfasts at the Hilton, consider this:
"The greatest inhumanity is incompetence.” -- Edmund Pellegrino, MD and Professor Emeritus of Medicine and Medical Ethics at the Center for Clinical Medical Ethics at Georgetown University Medical Center.

The Bean Counter was being sarcastic...hence the "quotes" around "company time" and reference to Team Jacob (to be read as a reference to New Moon). But there is no escaping the very real political reality that such frivolous posts do serve to provide fodder for His Majesty and the Court...and as another poster commented elsewhere reinforces the perception that faculty "don't work". Unfortunately, many of posts fail the substance test and focus on the personal (or worse yet salaries)--not concrete policies. Given the overall budget (base, one time, and grants/contracts) and size of the institution (inclusive of a program array that includes a medical school and law school) the salaries aren't too high. Focus on reorg, reduced student services, and how declining faculty FTEs have impacted SCHs/graduation rates/DWF rates compared to peer institutions...that's where the rubber meets the road. Additionally, demonstrate that CAS has substantially increased external funding per capita (i.e., FTE T/TT faculty) over the past decade and compare that to other units and peers. Focus on the data--not the personal narrative and the BoT will listen...CAS has a solid data set and should use it.
Respectfully submitted--Bean Counter
Data?!?!? That provides no catharsis. And I'm mad!!!!
Data? What excites the members of the BOT is gazing at themselves in the mirror before dinner at Mancys, not some mythic erogenous zone named "data".
Have you examined the "data" from the "Climate Survey" for UT? Now that is statistical science you can take to the bank. Hot stuff!Just try and plow through that data if you want to work up a chubby about the human condition at UT.
Data will not save the liberal arts and A&S College from this BOT/Jacobs conspiracy. He will do what he likes without remorse because the BOT threw him the keys to the Chevy and then permission along with godspeed to drive it into the levee.
